Nordic business calls for ambition and results from the COP30 climate conference

14.11.2025

The voice of Nordic business is strongly present at the UN climate change conference. The Finnish Industries EK and its sister organisations urge governments to ensure that the conference accelerates efforts to mitigate climate change, to advance carbon pricing, to develop international emissions unit markets, and to strengthen climate finance.

On 14 November, EK together with its sister organisations from Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Iceland issued a joint statement at the COP30 climate conference in Belém. The statement was received by Finland’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Sakari Puisto, and Norway’s Minister of Climate and Environment, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen.

The organisations call on governments to commit to sufficient emission reductions and to accelerate their implementation, so that the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius remains achievable. Achieving this objective requires investments that simultaneously strengthen competitiveness and reduce emissions.

At the Belém conference, the sister organisations hope that governments will expedite the implementation of previously agreed measures to increase climate finance, and seek ways to mobilise funding through public-private cooperation.

The organisations also urge rapid progress in establishing international emissions unit markets, building on the agreement reached at the Baku conference in 2024.

In addition, the Nordic organisations call for a swift expansion of carbon pricing, the adoption of low-emission technologies to phase out fossil fuels, and the acceleration of carbon capture and circular economy solutions. The transition must also be managed in a way that enables the achievement of sustainable development goals worldwide.
