According to Jaana Tuominen, the new Chair of the Board of Directors of the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK), Finland will recover from the coronavirus crisis by increasing its the rate of employment. Tuominen was elected Chair of the Board of Directors of EK
today.

– The welfare state is something that is very important to me. I, myself, come from a working-class family where there was no extra money. The welfare state guaranteed me the opportunity to earn a master’s degree in chemical engineering. Finland’s strength has always been the fact that anyone can secure their future through education. Unfortunately, we can no longer be certain that future generations will have the same opportunity. Only by boosting employment and thereby increasing our prosperity can we ensure the wellbeing of all Finns in the future, says Tuominen.

Jaana Tuominen, the new Chair of the Board of Directors of EK, has a master’s degree in chemical engineering. Prior to being elected, she served as the CEO of Fiskars and of Paulig. She is currently a member of the Board of Finnair and serves as an advisor to a several companies. Her term of office as Chair of EK will begin on 1 January, 2021.

According to Tuominen, Finnish companies play an important role in creating prosperity in society and enabling growth. Securing our prosperity will require new legislation and a healthy attitude towards work. Tuominen’s toolbox includes dismantling of unemployment traps, immigration, prevention of social exclusion, and education.

– I extend my hand of cooperation to Prime Minister Marin. I hope that by working together, we will be able to do all that is possible to preserve and renew Finnish jobs. Only well-performing companies can employ people. In order to provide enough jobs in Finland, we also have to ensure that Finnish companies have the operating conditions they need, says Tuominen.

The General Assembly of EK elected a new Board of Directors for 2021 at its meeting on 18 November 2020.
